14 Feet Closer

14 feet closer to GOD in an old oak tree. Somewhere in the middle of the wilderness surrounded by old growth forest. Just some big Oak, Maple, Hickory, and a few Persimmon trees on a frosty calm clear morning.
So still and quiet that the only sound is the occasional acorn dropping to the ground.
Not a sound. Just a peaceful quiet.
The noise of the hustle and bustle have been left far behind.
You’re deep in the woods. Miles from the nearest road.
Cell phones don’t work here.
It’s just you and the wilderness.
You and the magnificent creation.

Just you and GOD.
Just you and the CREATOR.

Sitting 14 feet up a tree in the middle of the wilderness is where GOD can whisper.

In our daily life, there is so much noise. So much to do. So busy surviving the life and strife that we have created that even a yell can be tough to hear.
But out here in the wilderness. Up here 14 feet above the earth. We can look around and see the beauty that GOD has created. We witness the miracles of life. We can see the dance of the squirrels. We witness the power of a soaring hawk. We are in awe at the gracefulness of the deer.
It is here, 14 feet closer to the heavens that we can hear the still small voice of GOD. Here we can hear the soft whisper that draws us closer.
A whisper is intimate.
A whisper gets us to lean in.
A whisper is used to draw us near.
A whisper gets our attention.
A whisper is a breath.
And this whisper is the breath of our Creator.

The same breath that spoke the world into existence, the breath that created Adam in the garden, the breath that created the wilderness that we see around us today. That same breath GOD shares with us when HE whispers.

HIS breath calms the storms, heals the sick, makes the lame to walk, and said “Forgive them!” as Jesus died to save us on the cross.

GOD whispers because HE wants us to come closer to Him.
GOD whispers because HE has something just for us.
GOD whispers because HE loves us.

Being 14 feet closer to GOD is more than just climbing a tree.
Being closer to GOD is listening for HIM to whisper to you today.
As you sit 14 feet closer today, listen for HIS still small voice and draw closer to hear the whisper of GOD.

I Kings 19:11-13
Then He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the Lord’s presence.” At that moment, the Lord passed by. A great and mighty wind was tearing at the mountains and was shattering cliffs before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake, there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was a voice, a soft whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.
Suddenly, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah? ”
